Stereo Tutorial - Using Paintshop Pro 5

To create the Stereo effect all we need to do is replace the 'Red' Channel in the Right image with the 'Red' Channel taken from the left image.

Load the left and right images created with Bryce into Paintshop.

It may be helpful to keep the left image on the left of the screen.

We now need to get access to the Red/Green/Blue Channels for each image.

Make the left image active by clicking its Title bar.

From the Menu Click 'Colours - Channel Splitting - Spit to RGB'

Three windows containing black and white images will pop up, these contain the greyscale information for each of the colour channels.
They will be named something similar to Red1, Green1, Blue1.

Make the right hand image active and repeat the channel splitting for this image. Again you will see another three windows and they will be named similarly to Red2, Green2, Blue2. (fig2)

So far so good, the screen will be looking a little crowded now with all those windows open. If you wish you can minimise each one to help clear the clutter.

You'll be glad to hear we are nearly finished!

All we need to do now is recombine the correct channels into a new image. What we want is the the Left image's Red Channel (Red1 - or whatever yours is numbered ) to be combined with the Right image's Green and Blue Channels ( Green2, Blue2 )

fig3

So from the Menu Click 'Colours - Channel Combining - Combine from RGB'

A small window will pop up (fig3 ),
ensure the 'Sync blue and green....' box is NOT checked ( 1 fig3 )

Now using the drop down selections set up the channel combiner as shown in fig3, with the Red channel from the Left image and the Green and Blue channels from the Right image.

Click 'OK' and the new combined image will appear in its own Window.

Get out the glasses and marvel at the stereo appearance.

If you are having difficulty seeing the image in 3D there are a couple of things you can try.

Firstly swap the glasses around so that the blue lens is over your left eye. If that solves it then you have managed to reverse the left/right views somehow. It's not that important as long as you remember, but it is usual to have the red lens over the left eye and nearly all Anaglyphs you find on the Web are like this. ( You can of course just flip the image left-right which will work ok as long as there is no text in the scene).

If you have difficulty getting the foreground objects to merge then more than likely the camera was moved too far in Bryce. Simply go back to Bryce and render just the Right hand view but this time don't move the Camera so far.
